This is a quick list outline the basic maintenance and care.
-
Remove battery after use. On more than one instance the device was not turned off, luckily caps were on to protect the device
-
Avoid Alkaline batteries as they tend to leak, corroding your battery compartment. Lithium are universally recommended
-
Cap the lenses after use. Protects the lenses as well as the tube from day exposure.
-
Tie your device down to your helmet.
-
Ideally for maintenance, sending your device to a Night Vision vendor is the best choice. DIY-ing the maintenance can be done with the correct tools. We recommend if you go this route to ask an experienced builder, and reference videos before attempting home maintenance “measure twice, cut once”.
-
Clean the lenses. Some lenses are made from polymer and will scratch easier than glass. Know what lenses are on your device. Use a blower for the debris and a lens wipe after the debris has been removed.
-
Check your tubes every month. Occasionally defects will appear in your tube (emission point, vacuum leak). If any of these issues occur contact the vendor who built the device as soon as possible.
-
Buy a protective case.
Some of these sound like common sense. Sometimes common sense is not so common. Many such cases where simple precaution would have prevented a costly accident.
